A Clean supply of water means life. A thirsty child often isn't thinking about whether their water is safe to drink, or whether the water they are drinking needs to be boiled before use.
Even where pipes exist to tap into the government water supply in Uganda, the supply is not dependable, it is often shut off without notice and at times the pressure is very low and the water may be brown. Alternatives to government water include fetching murky water from nearby swamps or puddles, or sometimes even just doing without water!
We kicked off our H208 water project in May of 2008, with an initial goal of raising enough funding to drill a deep well in Uganda to bring clean, safe drinking water to one of our ministry partners at an estimated cost of about $8500.00, which included a
preliminary report of drilling location and depth, sealing off of shallow water,
sealing the top, PVC casing, hand pump and concrete platform for proper
water runoff. The deep well provides a reliable source of clean water, and does not incur usage fees associated with the government water supply.
